The Players Guild of Dearborn board of governors approved their 85th season Feb. 21 with a slate that includes two musicals, a drama and two comedies.

DRACULA
The Guild’s 2012 – 2013 season will open with a non-musical version of “Dracula.” Based on the Bram Stoker novel, the play follows Count Dracula’s journey, his stalking of two young women and his eventual defeat at the hands of their friends and suitors.
Auditions will be held July 23 and 24, with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m. and auditions beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The show will be performed Sept. 14 to 30 for three weekends, with Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday matinees.
JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s first publicly performed musical will be the first musical of the Guild’s 85th season.
Based on the Biblical story in Genesis of Joseph and his coat of many colors, the large cast, through-composed musical, with its catchy music and family-friendly dialogue has become a popular choice with both school and community theatres.
Auditions will be held Sept. 17, 18 and 19, with possible separate auditions for the children’s chorus. The show will be performed Nov. 9 to Dec. 2 for four weekends.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
The Guild will start off the New Year with the Derek Benfield comedy “First Things First.” Pete has remarried following the death of his first wife in a climbing accident. However, chaos ensues when his first wife returns home very much alive. Pete and his best friend George try to solve the dilemma without upsetting either wife or the second wife’s powerful mother.
Auditions will be held Nov. 12 and 13, with the show running Jan. 11 to 27 for a three weekend run.
RETURN ENGAGEMENTS
Bernard Slade’s comedy “Return Engagements” is next. The author of “Same Time, Next Year,” “Tribute” and “Romantic Comedy” follows the lives of four couples over the span of 32 years. In the first act, three couples are introduced: a tipsy actress and the bellboy with whom she has a one-night stand; a Polish woman who survived WW2 and the carpenter she has chosen to get her pregnant; and an acerbic columnist and a psychotherapist spouse whose marriage is in trouble.
In the second act the audience sees what has happened to the couples 20, 25 and 30 years later, as the direction their lives took is revealed and, ultimately, how their lives are linked.
Auditions will be held Jan. 14 and 15, with performances March 1 to 17 for a three weekend run.
A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
The Guild will close its 85th season with the Stephen Sondheim musical “A Little Night Music.” The show follows the romantic lives of several couples, and includes the well-known song “Send in the Clowns.” It opened on Broadway in 1973, with a 2009 revival. It was adapted for film in 1977 with Elizabeth Taylor, Len Cariou, Lesley-Anne Down and Diana Rigg.
